Prof. Canda was graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara. He completed his urology residence at Dokuz Eylul University School of Medicine, Department of Urology in Izmir. He had clinical and research fellowships & academic visits at SLK Kliniken Heilbronn in Germany (Supervisor: Prof.Jens Rassweiler), Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium (Supervisor: Prof.Hein Van Poppel), Bristol Urological Institute in UK (Supervisor: Prof.Paul Abrams) and Royal Hallamshire Hospital in, UK (Supervisors: Prof.Chris Chapple & Prof.Russell Chess-Williams). He worked at Yildirim Beyazit University, School of Medicine, Ankara Atatürk Training & Research Hospital in Ankara, Turkey until 2018 (Supervisor: Prof. M. Derya Balbay).
Since 2018, Prof. Canda has been working in the Department of Urology at Koç University Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey and also has been serving as the director of a surgical & robotic training center RMK AIMES (Rahmi M. Koç Academy of Interventional Medicine, Education and Simulation) that is located in the same campus.
His main area of interest is robotic surgery. He has been performing robotic urology since February 2009 and has an experience and exposure of more than 2000 robotic urology cases with Intuitive Da Vinci S, Si, X and Xi. Since April 2025, he has been using Medtronic Hugo RAS and since March 2026, he has been using Intuitive Da Vinci Single Port (SP) robotic systems.
Prof. Canda served as a European Association of Urology (EAU) Robotic Urology Section (ERUS) Board member and he is actively involved in robotic urology training. He has been serving as a trainer in many courses organized at RMK AIMES Training Center (Istanbul), ORSI Academy Robotic Surgery Training Center (Belgium) and during many international & national congresses, symposiums and courses including the EAU congresses. He trained the 1st and 2nd fellows on robotic radical prostatectomy procedure in Turkey via cc-ERUS training program.
Prof. Canda is a member of ERUS scientific & education working groups and has co-authored many international publications on robotic urology including ERUS and IRCC (International Robotic Cystectomy Consortium) studies published in international peer-reviewed journals and also has co-authored in various international book chapters on robotic urology.
He is in the editorial board member of European Urology, British Journal of Urology Compass, SIUJ, Robotic Surgery: Research and Reviews, Central European Journal of Urology-Videourology. He is the editor-in-chief of European Medical Journal of Urology (EMJ Urology) and associate editor for Frontiers in Surgery.
He has received many awards for the robotic urology studies mostly during ERUS Congresses. He has co-authored more than 160 peer-reviwed publications.
Prof. Canda is a member of ERUS, EAU, AUA (American Association of Urology), SIU (Societe Internationale d’Urologie) and Endourological Society. He is a founding member of SERUS (South East Robotic Urology Surgeons) and IURES (International Urologic Research Society). He is a board member of IPF (International Prostate Forum). He has been elected as an active member of Association of Academic European Urologists (AAEC) in 2026.
An ERASMUS European Union project (2026) that Prof. Canda from Koç University has partnered together with Hacettepe University (Turkey), Universite de Rennes (France), Universita Degli Studi Di Perugia (Italy), Chosun University (South Korea) and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) on European Robotic Technology – Based Training Curriculum in Health Sciences has been approved & funded. The aim of this international project is to develop training models & simulators for robotic training.
He is a dog lover and plays tennis & golf. He also plays accordion, piano, harmonica and ukulele.
